I've spoken with several other artists about album art and some folks find it an easy process, others fret over what to be on the cover of an album - Photo? If so which one? - Art? What kind of art? - Graphics? What should the design be?
Since I know my way around InDesign and LightRoom I am pretty comfortable with the process. That said there are others far more skilled than myself and so, in Old School fashion I reached out to some collaborators. My friend Alexis had mentioned in passing, almost a year or more ago, about wanting to be involved in aspects of the Album Art design for the EP. (that just shows you how long a journey this EP has been) A few text messages, a couple of emails, some pinterest mood boards and we set about nailing down the general concept for the artwork. After narrowing down a bunch of options we were able to come up with the basic blueprint of what I would take to the graphic designer - Hannah.
Hannah was great! I presented her with the basic blueprint that Alexis and I cooked up and then the journey began. Hannah present some basic images, and then colors and I gave detailed notes. Emails went back and forth with detailed notes as the artwork began to take shape. Hannah's busy work schedule meant she had to toil on the design on many a weekend - making the little adjustments from my notes along the way.
A great deal of moving the Vinyl printing process forward hinged on when we could get the artwork in, checked and signed off by me once they sent us the graphic test. It was a great to finally see it all come to fruition and to have Alexis give a full two thumbs up! Since she wasn't in the back-and-forth process with Hannah, she wasn't able to see the blueprint that we sketched out slowly come to life; it came to her complete and she approved.
It was great to be able to collaborate with two very talented women and have them in the Old School mix.
